Green tea is obtained from the leaves of the tea plant Camellia sinensis. Unlike black tea, which is also made from this tea plant, the leaves are not oxidized or fermented. That is, they are heated directly after harvesting to inactivate their enzymes. The gentle heating of the fresh leaves results in the preservation of many active ingredients. The tea plant and its preparation methods originated in China.
