Folic acid is a vitamin involved in many important metabolic processes in the body. It is also called folate or vitamin B9. The name is derived from the Latin word "folium", which means "(plant) leaf". Folic acid is found in high concentrations in green plants such as spinach and cabbage. The vitamin is sensitive to external influences such as heat, light and oxygen. Products containing folic acid must therefore be handled and stored gently.
